At the 2024 Asian Pastry Cup (APC) held in Singapore on October 23-24, team China, champions of the CPC 2023, distinguished itself with outstanding skills and unique creativity, qualifying for the 2025 World Pastry Cup (WPC) to be held in Lyon, France. Apart from the Chinese team, the prestigious APC gathered pastry chefs from various Asian countries and regions, including Indonesia, Malaysia, China’s Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, India, and Singapore. Collectively all participants showcased the outstanding ability of Asian pastry art.

Since its establishment in 2006, the APC has consistently upheld its mission to promote and elevate the skills of Asian pastry chefs. Held biennially in Singapore, the APC has become a significant pathway to the WPC. Each national or regional team consists of one coach and two contestants, with the top three teams ultimately qualifying for the WPC. This competition provides participants with anopportunity to showcase their skills and exchange ideas. In doing so, the APC serves as a vital bridge connecting various cultures and countries across Asia.
The Chinese team is composed of Wang Sheng, the champion of Chocolate category at the 2023 China Pastry Cup, and Sun Tongtong, the champion of Sugar Art category. Wang Sheng continuously pursues innovation in pastry making, emphasizing the perfect blend of appearance and flavor. He won the championship at the Top of Pâtissierin Asia in 2019 and has served as the national team coach for the sugar art pastry events at the 46th and 47th World Skills Competitions. In addition, he was recognized as a ‘National Technical Expert’ in 2020, showcasing his exceptional skills and craftsmanship. Sun Tongtong shines with her exquisite sugar art modeling techniques. As a ‘National Technical Expert’ and a first-level Western pastry technician, she won a gold medal for China at the 2021 Dessert Chocolate Digital Skills Competition and received the title of ‘21st National Youth Talent’ awarded by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security in 2022.

At the 2024 APC, the Chinese team received high praise from the judges for their outstanding skills and excellent teamwork, successfully securing a spot at the 2025 WPC in Lyon, France. By participating in this international event, the Chinese contestants were able to showcase their abilities while simultaneously learning and observing new practices from other contestants. This in turn helps progress the Chinese domestic industry alongside international standards.
