May 21, 2025, Shanghai – The 5th China Pastry Cup (CPC) was held at Bakery China in Shanghai from May 19 to 21. Co-organized by the China Association of Bakery & Confectionery Industry and the organizing committee of the CPC, the event serves as anofficial qualification pathwayfor the Asian Pastry Cup (APC) and World Pastry Cup (WPC). The CPC aims to promote China’s dessert industrystandards and innovative capacity, and provides a platform for Chinese pastry chefs to showcase their talents and exchange skills.

The theme of this year’s competition is “Source”, which means green creativity and sustainability. This theme reflects the heritage of Chinese dessert culture and emphasizes the concept of green creativity and sustainable development. "Source" signifies roots and origins, symbolizing China's commitment to protecting its resources on the path to sustainable development. In this competition, contestants are challenged to integrate organic ingredients and green creativity to create their desserts.
This year's competition featured two major categories: the Chocolate and Sugar Art Group. Through innovative creations, contestants showcased their exquisite skills and fully demonstrated their inspiration. After an intense and fierce competition, the champion of the Chocolate Group was Wang Sheng, and the champion of the Sugar Art Group was Sun Tongtong. These two outstanding champions form the new generation of China's national team and will compete at the 2026 APC in Singapore,with clear ambitions to reach the 2027 WPC in Lyon, France.

This year's successful CPC marks a new phase for the Chinese dessert industry. The event organizers provided contestants with high-quality ingredients, including chocolate from the century-old classic brand Valrhona, as well as cream and mascarpone from Elle & Vire Professionnel, which preserves the traditional flavors of Normandy, France. These premium ingredients offer strong support for the contestants' creations, ensuring the perfect presentation of each piece. Contestants closely aligned their creations with the event theme, resulting in breathtaking chocolate and sugar art masterpieces.
Two Champions and Their Creations
At the awards ceremony on May 21st, industry experts and leaders gathered together to witness a momentousoccasionfor the Chinese dessert industry. Ms. Lynn Lin, Chairman Assistant of China Association of Bakery and Confectionery Industry, Mr. Louie Ye, Chairman of the CPC Executive Committee, Mr. Denis VERGNEAU, General Manager of Sinodis and CPC Executive Committee member, and Mr. Mikael Sacchi, Country Manager, Greater China, Valrhona,delivered remarks at the event. They collectively praised the outstanding performance of the contestants and encouraged them to continue to push the Chinese dessert industry towards new heights.
With the conclusion of the CPC, all sights are set on the forthcoming Asia Pastry Cup and World Pastry Cup. The winners now have a major responsibility ahead, and will dedicate themselves preparing for the challenges of aninternational stage. Since its launch in 2017, the CPC has become a key platform for selecting a talentedChinese dessert team. This competition has helped many talented young chefs rise to prominence, and provided an opportunity for these chefs to showcase the unique flavors and technical mastery of Chinese desserts.
